I am hungry for your participation and contributions. I am specially seeking the wisdom of our Pediatric colleagues regarding this eternal question/debate/feud of whether pediatric patients should get cuffed vs. uncuffed ETT’s.

I agree with you, and to add to the fact that the topic is not settled yet, the issue of intubation in the ICU is mentioned. One thing is to be intubated for 1-2 hours in the OR but another is to be intubated in an ICU for days. Interestingly and due to our learning process and certain cases that become teachers, some of us at the VA are measuring cuff pressures in ETT’s and LMA’s routinely; you will be surprised how often and to what magnitude we over-inflate the cuffs. And then we wonder why patients get sore throats etc..
